A little about me…

Hi I’m Mackenzie! I was born and raised in Texas, but am now based in New York City. I just finished my masters in magazine and digital journalism at New York University. I graduated in 2024 from the University of Texas at Austin with my bachelors in journalism and a minor in business.

I have work experience in podcasting, writing and reporting, fact-checking, story development, and I have done work on the editorial side of video production.

Most recently I was a location manager for NBC at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade where I managed a team at Columbus Circle in parade set up and take down. I ensured that our location was primed for broadcasting video out to other locations on the parade route.

I was an intern at NBC News on the Dateline team. There I was able to help in story development, fact-checking and writing audio scripts, and I wrote articles for their Cold Case Spotlight section. For the past two years I have worked as an election night stringer for the Associated Press in multiple elections, and done freelance writing for various publications such as The Utopian and Beyond The Meeting Room Magazine.

I was an executive producer for The Drag Audio Production House in Austin working on shows such as “Check Out This Podcast,” “Forsaken” and “Generation AI.” I have worked as an undergraduate learning assistant at UT helping to mentor and teach audio/video journalism and have a strong passion for teaching in the field.

Outside of my journalistic work, I also teach classes at The Bar Method Noho!
